Ode to Green Smoothies

Sometimes I wish that life was one big blender; that anything could be thrown in and would blend harmoniously with everything else. But since the world isn’t so go-with-the-flow, I present to you something that truly is…green smoothies:) Greens are literally transformed in the blender and take up the flavor of whatever else your little heart desires. For a week now, I have been making one every morning for breakfast and haven’t tired, since there are so many endless combinations. There are three main ingredients that make up the base of every smoothie: 1 frozen banana, 1 cup almond milk, and 2 big cups of spinach or whatever other leafy green (Note: kale is still bitter!). From there, you can add more vegetables, choose your flavor, and throw in your add-ins. Here are a few of my favorites so far:

PB Green Smoothie:

 Frozen Banana

2 C. Spinach

1 C. Almondmilk

2 T. PB2

Hemp Protein Powder

Flax Seed

2 Ice Cubes

Spirulina Powder

Cocoa Almond Green Monster

1 frozen banana ~1 C Almondmilk ~2 C Spinach

1/4 Cucumber

1 T.Cocoa Powder

1 T. Almond Butter or 1/2 tsp Almond Extract

1/4 Avocado Pit

Hemp Protein

Spirulina Powder

Tropical Green Smoothie:

1 frozen banana

1 C Almondmilk (coconut milk would be even better!)

2 C Spinach

1/4 C. frozen mango

1/4 cup frozen pineapple

Hemp Protein

                                                                                                    Spirulina powder

                                                                                                     1/4 Avocado Pit

Flaxseed

Apple Pie  Green Smoothie:

1 frozen banana ~1 C Almondmilk ~2 C Spinach

1/2 Apple

2 or 3 big shakes cinnamon

                                                                                                         Hemp Protein

                                                                                                    Spirulina powder

                                                                                                     1/4 Avocado Pit

Flaxseed

*Make sure that you blend for at least a minute if you are using an avocado pit!*

Leaving the breakfast table knowing that you just got at least 2 servings of vegetables basically in the form of a milkshake is definitely a win in my book! Oats are taking a vacation from this blog and green smoothies are coming for a stay- I see new flavors including Pumpkin Pie, Cherry, and Maple Sweet Potato Green Smoothies in the future!

Speaking of new flavors, has anyone tried the new KIND Bar flavors? I’m dying to try the Dark Chocolate Sea Salt and the Cashew Ginger! Yumm!

  1. A sweet potato smoothie sounds like a dream!! So do those Dark Chocolate Sea Salt Kind Bars! l can’t wait to get my hands on one

  2. I haven’t had one in ages, but I might just have to change that soon – those green monsters look delicious!

  3. I am not much of a green smoothie person when it is straight from the blender. I am however a fan of Naked juice’s green monster. That one is yummy!

  4. The green monster sounds like a dream! I will definitely have to give it a whirl (no blender pun intended). 🙂

  5. I love green smoothies! I’ve found that if you use vanilla almond milk with kale it lessens the bitterness. The green monster sounds great!

  6. Did you say ‘avocado pit’?? Do you really put that in a shake? Never thought to use it! 😀
