Chocolate Zucchini Bread Green Smoothie (yes, another green smoothie recipe…)

My Vitamix is definitely getting in shape! I generally take very good care of it, although the other day I blended up a penny while making almondmilk. Apparently my mom had taken our giant bag of almonds in her car on her way to work and accidentally dropped a few coins in the bag since it was right next to her loose change. If it hadn’t been so loud banging around in there I probably wouldn’t have even noticed! That’s when you know you have a good blender. Anyways, I know, yet another green smoothie recipe, but I don’t think I’ll ever tire of them! Especially now that it’s summer, they are so refreshing and I love getting creative and coming up with new versions. This one is definitely a keeper! I first made it just a zucchini bread smoothie, but the cocoa powder is essential to making it epic:)

This past week we were given some a load of huge squashes and zucchinis. Even with adding them to lunches and dinners all week and having grilled zucchini galore, we still had another left! What to do? Throw it in the VitaMix of course!

Chocolate Zucchini Bread Green Smoothie

1 large frozen banana

1 cup packed green leafy vegetable (I mixed spinach and kale)

1/2 zucchini, chopped roughly

1 1/3 cup almondmilk

1 scoop chocolate protein powder or 2 T. dark cocoa powder

2 T. flax seed or oil

Boosts: (chia seed, bee pollen, spirulina, maca, etc.)

Blend until smooth, sip, and savor guilelessly. Let’s face it, real zucchini bread is pretty much an excuse to eat more bread and not feel bad about it 🙂

By the way, this recipe made more than is shown in the glass…actually, serving my smoothies in salad bowls has become the norm!;) At first, I thought that I couldn’t taste the zucchini bread flavor, but it definitely started to come through! I feel a Green Smoothie recipe roundup coming in the near future- any suggestions before I start gathering them up?

Let me know what you think of this one!

  1. Oooh you’ve encouraged me to make some more smoothies…I’m thinking a Green Monster might be in order. Unfortauntely I don’t have an amazing Vitamix though 😦

  2. This looks fabulous! Great idea!!

    • Thank you! I’ve been doing a dessert collection of smoothies-let me know if you have any ideas:) Just visited your blog-I totally know what you mean about the ice cubes! I like flavoring mine:)

  3. This is such a good idea! I’ve toyed with the idea of adding zucchini to my smoothies but haven’t ever done it. I’m going to try!

    • It really is delicious! You can’t skimp on the zucchini though or else you can’t taste it. I love zucchini bread so I knew this one was going to be a keeper:) Thanks for the comment!

  4. So, I have a long zucchini in my kitchen. I had no idea what to do with it (I recently decided to purchase vegetables I don’t normally eat – zucchini, asparagus). But this is simple enough. Now I don’t have to delve into the world of least not yet anyway. Graci.

    • My pleasure! I also always try to venture out and buy vegetables I don’t normally get, but most of the time they end up going straight into green smoothies;) My other favorite thing to do with zucchini is to make oven zucchini “fries”- just brush the spears in olive oil, and toss in fine ground whole wheat breadcrumbs with a little salt and pepper and bake at 375ish for about 15 min… Yum!

      • Thanks, I’ll probably do that with what’s left of it. In fact, I might do that right now – I’m not doing anything. Thanks, bro(:

  5. I know you posted this last summer, but I just found it today! I had some frozen zucchini in the freezer and needed to use it, so googled and there you were! This is awesome, really! It made a lot, but I could seriously have drank even more…thanks a bunch…

    • So glad you liked it! It’s definitely a staple around here- my sister always asks me to make it for her, and it’s so healthy:) Thanks for the sweet comment!
