Healthified Fruit Salad for the Holidays

Happy Sunday! I have a recipe makeover for you today, because- let’s face it: fruit salad is usually not a salad. And quite often it’s difficult to find a fruit amid all the marshmallows and sugar. With its generous cool whip dressing, it’s generally far from healthy. But… it tastes amazing! And with a few healthy substitutions, you can have your fruit salad (and eat it too!) as often as you like.

Healthified Hoilday Fruit Salad

5 apples, chopped into small pieces

2 pears, chopped into small pieces

3 cups grapes, halved

1 can drained pineapple (not in syrup)

1 package pomegranate arils (set a handful aside)

1 large (32 oz) container plain Greek yogurt

1/4 c. pecans (optional)

1/4 cup of honey or agave

1 tsp. vanilla extract

Directions: Mix all fruit in a large bowl. Fold in honey, yogurt, and vanilla. Top off the salad with the rest of the pomegranate arils and 1/4 cup of pecans (optional). Refrigerate.

This is perfect for bringing to holiday parties! It’s thick and sweet without being too rich, and has so many textures from all of the different kinds of fruit. So this year, skip the Cool Whip and the marshmallow fluff, the syrup and the sugar. Bring this dish this year and nobody will be able to tell the difference:)

  6. This sounds so delicious and refreshing! It reminds me a bit of one of my favorite breakfasts: applesauce topped with Greek yogurt, almonds, oats, vanilla extract & honey!

  9. Seriously, I’m never quite sure what exactly is in those marshmallow dishes. This looks like a safe substitute, no mystery as to what I could be about to eat:) I love the idea of the greek yogurt! I have an uncle that might be disappointed about the lack of marshmallows but he’ll adjust:)

    • Haha! This salad is also great for Thanksgiving, so I made a batch then, but my mom made sure to buy marshmallow fluff for herself;) Once she the healthy version, though, she loved it! Have a great night Kylie!
