Making a Difference

“‘Twas the night before Christmas

and all through the house

not a creature was stirring

not even a mouse…”

How adorable are these cherry mice? MGN is making a healthy version soon:)

This post, I wanted to talk about something that’s lurking everywhere in our country, especially with the economy. More and more kids are having to struggle to feed themselves. And the truth is that while I have this every week:

There are thousands of people out there who don’t even have this…

In fact:

  • 1 out of 5 kids, or 16 million, struggle with hunger.
  • 16.1 million children in America live in poverty
  • In 2011, 9.5 million families were in poverty

But there are programs that make it easy to help.

Feeding America

Just giving $1.00 to this organization helps provide 8 meals to families in need. That means just 10 dollars can feed 80 people!

Serve

Serve is different in that it is an organization that helps you find volunteer opportunities in your area-and even make your own! Although it has a big hunger motif, they also focus on disasters like Hurricane Sandy and other national problems.

No Kid Hungry

This hoilday, No Kid Hungry is matching your gift. That means $100 dollars becomes $200 to help feed kids in need.

My resolution this year is to donate and help out in any way I can. Whether it’s at the food pantry or online, I want to try to make a difference in some way.

Hope you have an AMAZING Christmas everyone!!

Great reminder Sunnie. I’m low on $$$ but I’ve been meaning to at least volunteer my time to help, this is a good time to do so.
