Superheros in Your Fridge

They might just be a blueberry or an almond, but if you look closer you’ll see that each of these foods is a Superman in a world full of toxins and additives. And while they may not have a cape or a rocketship, their health benefits, versatility, and good taste can help these favorite superfoods of mine can make it to your daily plate in no time:)

1.) Blueberries: Antioxidants, brain health, protection from infection

2.) Kale: One of the only two foods with a perfects ANDI score! (Nutrient density test- collard greens have the other perfect score)

3.) Avocado: Super healthy fats, aid eye health, help in lowering cholesterol. Not to mention they taste ridiculously good:)

4.) Carrots: Cancer prevention, improved vision, healthier skin

5.) Pumpkin: Full of fiber, may reduce cholesterol, nourishes skin

6.) Sweet Potatoes and Yams: Not just for the holidays! One sweet potato has almost 8 times your RDA of vitamin A, and is full of iron and calcium.

7.) Wild Caught Salmon: Loaded with the healthy Omega-3 fatty acids, this superfood protein also contains plenty of Vitamin D.

8.) Non GMO tofu: Soy foods in their whole are full of isoflavones, which have been proven to directly attack free radicals (aka the bad guys), and therefore play a part in fighting cancer. Just make sure to get non GMO and don’t go crazy on the amount you eat:)

9.) Almonds and Chia Seeds: As if we needed an excuse to eat more nut butter! Almonds are such a good source of mono-unsaturated fats, and also have good amounts of protein and fiber. And chia seeds? It’s said that they were the main source of fuel for Aztec warriors, and just a small amount could contain a person for 24 hours!

10.) Apple Cider Vinegar: ACV is all the rage as a coffee replacement. It’s energizing and has been shown to increase metabolism.

11.) Dark Chocolate: And last but not least, we have to sneak chocolate in there somewhere! We’ve heard all about the antioxidant benefits, but recent studies have found that eating a bit of really dark chocolate 2 times a week can actually help lower blood pressure.

There you go! Incorporating some of these foods into your diet can improve your overall health with their super vitamins and cancer fighting antioxidants. And really, whose going to turn down a square of dark chocolate or a little more almond butter when you have these in mind?;)
